I wish people would drive a car that suited them rather than buying a base-model SUV because it looks big and has a BMW badge
I wish cars were more like fashion. Where nobody is too good for old jeans and cheap tees
Or music. Where nobody is too good for trashy rock or shitty pop and it’s cool
Post cool shitty cars that would still be around if people didn’t so readily dispose of them

It cars weren’t status symbols, oppo and jalopnik wouldn’t exist

I think my diesel E-class and the fintail suit me fine.
I saw one of these on the road today, most were probably gone 15 years ago:

What year is the E and what’s a fintail and what is that? Pretend you’re explaining to an idiot

I’m not so sure! Enthusiasting is almost the opposite of status. It’s about liking cars for what they are rather than what they do for your image!

I look forward to a time when I own 3 totally different cars and get to see how differently I’m treated in them.
But I do buy he car I want regardless of how it makes me look. It just happened that this time around the car I wanted does make me look good. Especially when I’m trying to convince people that I’m mature, grown up, respectable.
On topic here’s a new car that would be a hell of a lot more common if people just bought what they needed. A Fiesta SFE with the 1.0t engine. Another Oppo has a sedan, he loves it and hey over 45mpg with it

Nah it’d be fine, we’re all about shitty old cars on here! Just ask torch or zoidberg!

E on the left, fintail on the right:
The E is a late model car, but it is a traditional MB, no false pretenses. The fintail is an unrestored survivor.

those cars are starting to come up in value in the market, same with early Vega’s. I think they will rise in value faster than the big cars like Impala’s and Caddy’s on the 70's. I have noticed locally a $10-15k price jump in good clean big bumper Camaro’s (74-77), Post chrome bumper Corvettes (73-82) and 78-81 Camaro’s.

Even if they weren’t status symbols they still say something about the owner.
If you buy a 2012 elantra instead of an older g35 what does that say about you as a car enthusiast? And vice versa.
Its not that old but Idong see many 323's.

Boy, that’s really something. It’s funny how the cheap cars in America are American cars, but over here it’s all about the Japs. The cars that have been getting posted in the comments here are completely unknown to me

Very, very nice! Must be great fun comparing them.

I think that’s particularly true in America where it’s all about needlessly big cars. Same in Australia really. In Europe, low capacity economy cars are all the rage.
I have an old MR2 which as a young (ish!) male makes me look like a huge douche.
But I like it

Maybe I’m being snobby. And you’re right.
My brother had one just like that. But it was a sedan and he crashed it. Dying breed

How could an Mr2 make anyone look like a Douche?

They are both good cars in their own right. MB has some regrettable models, like any brand, but neither of these are one.

I don’t really know what this means. Like a turbo fox body?
I’m pretty sure that’s not a mopar but. ??

People outside the car world think sports cars are penis extensions for douchebags who think they’re cool.

I suppose to most people there’s no difference between an humble MR2 and a Porsche, or Lotus or some other expensive sports car. In my head it’s no more ostentatious than a Civic
